Type Locality and Naming

Jiayin Basin. The Yuliangzi Formation was erected by the Heilongjiang First Regional Geological Survey Team in 1979, which was publically used by Luo Yuxing, Zhang Zhicheng and Li Weirong. The section for the designation is at Heilongjiangqian north of the Yuliangzi Village about 12 km west of the Jiayin County town of Heilongjiang. [This is the upper-middle formation of Jiayin Gr .]


Lithology and Thickness

The Yuliangzi Formation is represented by gray green and light yellow conglomerate, sandy conglomerate, gravel-bearing sandstone, medium and fine-grained sandstone and siltstone. The Yuliangzi Formation is 287.5 m thick.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Its base marked by conglomerate is distinguished from and lies disconformably on siltstone of the underlying Taipinglinchang Formation.

Upper contact

Its top is not observed.

Regional extent

The present formation is distributed in the Yuliangzi area and to the south of Chaoyang town of Jiayin County of Heilongjiang.

Fossils

The formation bears Dinosauria Hadrosaurinae, Saurolophinae, Tyrannosaurus, and Mandschrosaurus jianensis, Coelurosauridae.
